Liquid Ephedrine

Liquid ephedrine is a form that’s found in a number of medications including nasal drops, nasal sprays, and bronchodilators used in the treatment and relief of symptoms of asthma.

This product is FDA-approved in the United States for the treatment of certain health conditions, but due to the high risk of abuse it is not widely carried in stores.

Most forms of ephedrine-based medications (like Bronkaid or Primatene) are delivered in pill form. Some companies previously sold a mist or inhaler product, but this has been discontinued in many countries.

While more commonly found in tablet or capsule form, the liquid sprays or drops may also be found in countries where underground labs commonly manufacture drugs for sale on the black market. Obviously, it’s important to use extreme caution when purchasing liquid ephedrine from such sources.

It’s well known among bodybuilding and athlete circles that foreign manufacturers, and especially underground labs, are not always particular about the quality or purity of their ingredients.

Scammers, counterfeits, and legalities are always a concern when attempting to purchase any drugs, including ephedrine HCl liquid, from an underground source.

Ephedrine Drops

Ephedrine nasal drops are a common product in certain scenarios, mostly available in a 0.5% ephedrine hydrochloride solution. The primary use of such a product is in the treatment for nasal congestion, and through direct application to mucous membranes of the nasal passages.

Recommended dosages and dosing schedule will be determined by the treating physician. On average one to two drops in each nostril is recommended. It is recommended that a person using ephedrine drops not use it more than four times daily.

However, a number of side effects have been associated with liquid ephedrine drops such as those found in nasal decongestants. Among them:

Ephedrine Injection and IV Scenarios

There are certain instances in which this product will be used as an injectable medication or for IV delivery scenarios. In most cases, medicinal usage is limited to emergency or surgical situations where a patient may be experiencing very low blood pressure.

One of the primary mechanisms of action of an ephedrine injection is as a vasopressor, with its function of artery constriction. This constriction narrows the blood vessels and increases blood pressure as well as its return to the heart.

It may be administered to patients who have severe hypotension (low blood pressure). When given in an ephedrine IV, it can also stimulate the heart to beat faster and harder, which is often necessary in life-threatening scenarios.

Medicinal Reasons Use

One of the most common scenarios for ephedrine sulfate injections, whether it’s intravenous, subcutaneous, or intramuscular is for immediate injection in patients diagnosed with a sudden drop in blood pressure known as hypotension or other emergent and life-threatening scenarios.

Ephedrine sulfate injection solutions for intra-vascular, intramuscular, or subcutaneous use generally come in a 50 mg per milliliter pH 4.5-7.0 solution.

In adults, parenteral dosage ranges 25 mg to 50 mg subcutaneous or intramuscular. It is typically available in a sterile solution that contains 50 mg ephedrine sulfate mixed with water

When given intravenously, the solution is administered very slowly in a 5 mg to 25 mg dose, gradually repeated every five to 10 minutes as required depending on the situation.

Using Liquid Ephedrine for Weight Loss

Some people attempt to consume these liquid formulations in a drink or by mixing them with a pre-workout product. Using liquid ephedrine orally for nonmedical purposes is not recommended by medical professionals, and can even trigger life-threatening events.

Any individual attempting to inject him or herself with this product may trigger a number of undesired effects:

  • Nausea with vomiting
  • Tachycardia
  • Dilated pupils
  • Spasms
  • Convulsions
  • Pulmonary edema
  • Respiratory failure

One of the biggest concerns is the risk of overdose. While pill tablets are easier to measure your dosage, it is difficult to get the correct amount if taking this product in liquid form and can be easy to consume too much.

Other dangerous and life-threatening side effects are also possible. Before purchasing any type of ephedrine drops, extreme caution is advised.

How Does Ephedrine Act on the Body?

Ephedrine in any form, and most especially those given in liquid drops, intravenous, intramuscular, or subcutaneously, will react very quickly in the body due to its delivery method.

This drug is a stimulant, classified as a sympathomimetic amine. It has the potential to trigger certain adrenergic receptors. These receptors can influence a number of reactions including increasing blood pressure, accelerating the heart rate, enhancing greater heart contraction force, as well as dilating the airways in the lungs and sinus passages.

As noted, ephedrine can prove beneficial in medical treatment scenarios, and when supervised by a physician.

When used for nonmedical purposes such as weight loss, appetite suppression, or energy enhancement, effects can be a bit more than expected by some users.

Some studies have been conducted on the efficacy of ephedrine to promote weight loss, with less than stunning results.

Some individuals using ephedrine liquid along with other components such as caffeine, Bitter Orange, or other stimulative products may see quick benefits in weight loss, but most commonly among those who have only a few pounds to go.

For many, the accelerated heart rate and the increased sense of anxiety or nervousness, even at lower dosages, can prevent or curtail workouts.
